From Latin historia < Ancient Greek ἱστορία (historia, “learning through research, narration of what is learned”) < ἱστορέω (historeō, “to learn through research, to inquire”) < ἵστωρ (histōr, “the one who knows, the expert, the judge”), from * (“ϝίδτωρ”), from Proto-Indo-European *wid- (“know, knowledge”).
