The Romany peoples of Europe have been treated very badly for centuries. In times past it was perfectly legal to hunt them, rape their women, confiscate their children or lynch them without reason. In fact it was even written into the statutes of some countries. Why? Because they were 'different' ...that's all. In England, when the Romany's first arrived, around the Tudor times, they were called 'Egyptians' as they were dark skinned, spoke in their own language and were not Christians.
