An actor or actress (see terminology) is a person who acts in a dramatic production and who works in film, television, theatre, or radio in that capacity. The ancient Greek word for an "actor," ὑποκριτής (hypokrites), means literally "one who interprets"; in this sense, an actor is one who interprets a dramatic character.

Actress getting rid of bad throat?
Q. I am acting in a play tomorrow and saturday night, and I am starting to get a cold - which i can't afford to have as I am one of the leading roles. My voice is getting progressively weaker too, and considering some of my lines have to be "bawled" out (to be blunt) I need to preserve my voice and try to keep it in the best condition as I can. Does anyone have any quick remedies for an actress in need? Thanks!

What actress is in the classic movie poster showing a brunette sprawled out on a barn floor?
Q. May be a famous (1940's or 50's?) actress along the lines of Elizabeth Taylor. I believe she is on a pile of hay. Also, do you know the name of the movie?

I want to become a known actress but don't have any experience. How shall I start becoming an actor?
Q. I really want to become and actress. I'm still at school but want to get into acting before i do my GCSE's but i have hardly no acting experience (I've only been in a very short play at a local fun drama group). I would love to be in the soap Coronation Street but i need advise on how to start getting one step closer in getting in the soap.

A. get all the experience you can, like local theater, school plays, student films. you will need acting classes to learn how to work in front of a camera. if you want this as a career you will have to go to where the work and interviews are going to be which is Los Angeles. you will need an agent to get on most things. it does not cost to get an agent or find out where interviews are. if your still a minor you will need a lot of help from a parent until your 18 or get emancipated. to work in L A whenever you get a job you will need a parent or guardian on the set with you at all times till your 18. there is substantial cost to getting started in this. you will need pictures which are somewhere between 2 to 4 hundred, cost for acting classes,… [cont.]
