FrenchNouninstitutions f. pl.
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Institutions are structures and mechanisms of social order and cooperation governing the behavior of a set of individuals within a given human collectivity. Institutions are identified with a social purpose and permanence, transcending individual human lives and intentions, and with the making and enforcing of rules governing cooperative human behavior. The term "institution" is commonly applied to customs and behavior patterns important to a society, as well as to particular formal organizations of government and public service. As structures and mechanisms of social order among humans, institutions are one of the principal objects of study in the social sciences, such as political science, anthropology, economics, and sociology (the latter being described by Durkheim as the "science of institutions, their genesis and their functioning"). Institutions are also a central concern for law, the formal mechanism for political rule-making and enforcement. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How will borrowing $700 billion to pay to financial institutions help the economy? Q. I am having trouble with the logic of this. The U.S. gov. owes over $500 billion to Japan and over $500 billion to mainland China. These countries lent the money not because they love us, but to make money from us. The current financial crash is a result of overzealous borrowing. So we are solving the problem by borrowing another $700 billion to pay off the financial institutions that were at the heart of making bad loans. Am I the only one who sees a problem with this? Please help me understand. Asked by Sampson - Sun Sep 21 17:02:55 2008 - - 11 Answers - 2 Comments A. Let the tax payers pay it back. Q. Why do they need to be bailed out? A little more than 65% of the American population have a credit score of less than 630 who were approved for different types of loans from financial institutions with a higher interest rate. With all the extra money they've received from these people/loans, why are so many companies struggling since they received all the extra money/profit? Did all these people default? Asked by Lovecakes - Wed May 20 15:16:39 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Part of the problem is that loans that were not sub-prime are going into default. Due to the economy, with layoffs and other factors, people that had great credit scores and received loans are now unable to pay. It is this increase that is really hurting the institutions. The bailouts are not all for loan losses. Institutions also invest some of their capital, some of this was in the stock market and other places, and these have also lost value. They are required to have a certain amount of capital, and with changes in the value of investments, many of them are coming up short.
