What rights do I have to a company if I am the Vice President?
Q. I am the Vice President of a Auto Dealership. The Owner/ President is conducting illegal business with our employees and customer; what rights do I have. Can I over turn him.
Asked by TChris L - Tue Mar 20 12:02:44 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can report him to the appropriate government agency. As an executive / officer of the company, you have an obligation to the company to report any illegal or questionable business practices. If you ignore it then you may be considered to be taking part in it and be held liable. Consult an employment lawyer before you take any action so you can protect yourself.

What laws protect the rights of citizens being attacked by PETA activists?
Q. Im not sure if this is the right section to post this...so spare the lecture. Are PETA animals rights activists being incarcerated for throwing sacks of flour on people that could injure someones eyesight or for destroying anothers expensive personal property with paint? Are they being held financially liable? Im not judging their cause..they're entitled to protest but its the violent acts that I find appalling. Most of the activists I see on Tv, seem to run off after they commit the crime.

A. There are a number of different statutes, depending on the state and city. The biggest problem is that it's usually a hit and run tactic. After throwing blood on someone they don't wait around to be arrested. If they are caught, and nobody was actually hurt, they're usually charged with misdemeanor assult, criminal mischief, vandalism, or whatever else the arresting officers decide to charge them with. Incarceration is very rare, unless the person has a long track record of doing this kind of stuff. If somebody IS hurt, however, then felony assult becomes a possible charge. PETA has legal defense funds, and if a member is charged doing something in the name of the group then they'll usually foot the bill to get it plead down to a… [cont.]

How are rights different than privileges provided by the government?
Q. Aren't they both created by government? What rights do we have that DON'T come from government? "google the word 'inalienable' then re-read the constitution." Where is inalienable in the constitution? Is there a right to happiness anywhere? Am I obligated to make everyone happy because they all have that right?

Natural Rights

Natural rights are inherent choices found by some philosophers to exist logically for each individual, whether they are protected, or infringed, by society, government, or other social interaction.

  • People are usually surprised to discover that I hate the phrase "constitutional rights." I hate the phrase because it is terribly misleading. Most of the people who say it or hear it have the impression that the Constitution "grants" them their rights. Nothing could be further from the truth. Strictly speaking it is the Bill of Rights that enumerates our rights, but none of our founding documents bestow anything on you at all [...] The government can burn the Constitution and shred the Bill of Rights, but those actions wouldn't have the slightest effect on the rights you've always had.
